MINHO JEWELS is a registered Portuguese jewellery brand, inspired by the traditions of the Minho region in the north of Portugal, near Porto, rich in folklore, farming habits and religion.

Our Heritage

MINHO JEWELS was founded with a singular purpose:
to preserve and elevate the art of Portuguese Jewels for a discerning international audience.

We are from Viana do Castelo district and thank you for your suport!💛

We collaborate with master artisans whose expertise has been refined over generations.

Their knowledge is not learned quickly.
It is inherited.

A popular motto in the Minho region was "Gold as much as you can afford", which women followed, putting all their savings into jewellery or gold coins, to save for rainy days and also, of course, to wear to church and show off to their friends! Women did not work, so in order not to depend exclusively on their husbands and to gain some independence, they sold eggs, vegetables or even  chickens to have some money of their own, which they hide and quickly exchanged for gold jewellery, as it was not normal for women to have cash at that time. 

So after their deaths, they would give all their jewelry to their daughters, and if they only had sons, they would give the gold to their granddaughters, daughters-in-law they liked, sisters, or any female friends they had, to continue this tradition of female empowerment and sisterhood.
